Design concept
Created with three main key features; emotional value for the user, biodegradable material and longevity prospect for the stool.
The stool is made out of a wooden frame that is easily put together with a manual and wooden pins. Covering the stool is a layer of papier maché (paper and glue made out of water and flour). The third and last layer is a material made out of seaweed, seashells, water, vegetable starch, ashes and paper. The last and finishing layer is a thin spread of Shellack, an all natural finish.
In order to create furniture that lasts longer, we need to create an emotional value from day one. This we create by having the user putting the stool together themselves. Yes, total IKEA style with a difference that they user after building the wooden frame then blends their material mix with water and egg, to thereafter create and design the look of their stool themselves. In this way, the user invests time and energy into creating a unique interior piece and furniture with emotional value.
In case the stool would ever break, you get a repair kit and instructions on how to create the material yourself to repair and give your stool an everlasting life. A piece of furniture that is built to be inherited by generations.
